Chapter 25
Apollo
âSo let me get this straight. After speaking with my brother on his theory that the same energy that surrounds us is also inside of us, youâve concluded that the Cursed are a network of beings that are linked to one source. And you believe the book or the Vessel might be that source.â Apollo summarized everything that Jinx had just explained to him.
âYes.â
Apollo leaned back into his chair, crossing a leg over the other casually. âA network doesnât always have to have a centralized object.â
Jinx paced around Apolloâs chambers, talking and walking at the same time. âAgreed. But think about it. We both reacted so strongly to the book and the Vessel. They were two opposite reactions, yet strong reactions nonetheless. Both artifacts have unknown origins as well. The other thing that has an unknown origin to this day is the plague that had caused this mayhem of Cursed. All dating back to the same time, making an appearance twenty years ago. What if one of these objects is what started the plague in the first place, infecting parts of the network?â
âControlling the Cursed.â Apollo added, deep in thought.
âWe know there is some sort of link between you and the book, plus the Vessel and whoever has their hands on it,â Jinx said.
âThat could be a possible fourth motive for the person who stole the Vessel. Maybe they want to control or eradicate the Cursed, just like that person you overheard with the pin said.â He sighed. âWe must find a way to attend the Autumnal Equinox. Whoever is hosting this assembly could very well be the culprit. And the meeting is not for another two weeks.â
A sudden glint brightened his eye as he toyed with the pin clasped between his fingers. Jinx could not place it, but his gaze did not leave the pin. âI looked into this pinâs history a bit more. The distributor of this pin started his company as a tribute to his lost daughter, who had been infected during the plague twenty years ago. Behind the pin, you can see the marking of when it was established. The zinc alloy used in this pin comes from a corporation from Crosspoint Yard under the name of A.D. Marianna. There is no person under the name of A.D. Marianna in Somnium nor in the East. However, if you rearrange these letters, they spell out the name Amaan Nadir.â
âOne of the Seven.â Jinx followed. âHe was also at the amphitheater when you heard someone saying that they had the Vessel. You believe he took it?â
âI believe we may have a lead.â
Apollo couldnât confront him directly, though. If he were to speak to Nadir about this corporation, it would raise too many questions. If they wanted to confirm their theory, it would have to be Jinx who pursued the lead. âIâll talk to him. I can pretend to be an investor interested in his company.â
âAnd Iâll go to the distributor in two days. They have a stand in the Tents, open during work hours.
